Massachusetts still has thousands of identified gas leaks and miles of leak-prone pipe in the ground and new leaks are frequently detected. The Gas System Enhancement Program, known as GSEP, is the planned maintenance program that fixes dangerous, leak-prone gas infrastructure, reduces methane emissions, and helps keep the Commonwealth’s energy system safe and reliable.
The Senate’s energy bill would phase out GSEP by 2030. That would slow critical safety work, leave more leaks in the ground, and put communities at risk, without delivering meaningful relief on monthly energy bills.
